Like most modern-day romances, it all started with a swipe to the right. Tyler didn’t have his height listed on his dating profile, which was very wise of him because if Johnna had seen that he was 6’7”, she most likely would have swiped left due to height differences. After about a week of messaging back and forth, realizing that so many of their values aligned, Johnna asked him out of curiosity how tall he was. When he replied, Johnna then had to break the news that she was only 5’2”. Tyler responded with, “I’m ok with it if you are.” And so began the journey to ruin Tyler’s chances of having D1 babies someday.
After a first date at a coffee shop (which they ended up closing down due to hours of conversation) and then a walk over to a brewery where conversation continued, Johnna had to leave because she had prior plans to hang out with a couple of her friends (who are now two of her bridesmaids). She was so excited to tell them about his guy she just met who was so kind, funny, and made it a point to tell her how much he appreciated nurses, as he had battled cancer a few years back.
Tyler walked Johnna to her car, but neither of them really wanted to leave. After sharing a nervous first kiss in an underground parking ramp in St. Paul, they reluctantly parted ways.
Johnna was as all smiles on the car ride to meet her friends, Rachel and Maria, at a bar in Rachel’s hometown, staring at the bouquet of flowers in her passenger seat.
Little did Johnna know, that when Tyler had stepped out to take a quick phone call during their date, it was Tyler’s mom and he had been excitedly telling her about this amazing girl he was on a date with.
After some time spent at the bar chatting with the girls, Johnna received a message from Tyler telling her that he wanted to share his intentions with her. He said that he planned on only pursuing her for the time being, and would not be talking to anyone else on the dating apps anymore, unless something were to change.
And so, after that first date, we never had to look at those apps again. Though many years have passed since that winter day in 2019, and we have gone through a pandemic, many moves, job changes, buying a house, lots of vacations, and more together, through it all, our love for each other has never waivered. We are ready and excited to take the next step to spending the rest of our lives together!
We are so happy, lucky, and overjoyed to have found each other and to share our love and wedding day with the people we care about most. Thank you for being a part of our story!
